The Northstar House CHICAGO

House · 36,000 sq ft

Four floors, one door

4700 S Cottage Grove Ave, Chicago, IL 60615. Built to hold a Chicago winter and a Friday dinner rush.

The house is a rec building, not a school and not a church basement with folding chairs. Heat works. Lights stay on until 8:15 pm on school nights. Saturday runs 10–5.

Green Line Cottage Grove is a six-minute walk. Bus 4 stops on the avenue. The daytime Theatre photo is downtown State Street, not our door. It stands for the city’s hard lights. The house itself sits at 4700 S Cottage Grove.

Coat room on the basement stair. Pegs numbered. If a kid arrives underdressed in January, staff pull a spare. That is policy, not charity theater.

Floors

Basement gym
Indoor run, basketball, mats. Winter default when the lake wind makes the lot useless. Restrooms and lockers. Coat room at the stair so wet gear never hits the gym floor.
1F kitchen / commons
Serving line, dishwashing, long tables. Family desk by the door — Mina Patel. No vending wall of junk. Dinner is cooked here. Allergen board posted.
2F library / labs
Stacks, homework tables, maker benches, a few machines that stay behind a locked grate until a coach is in the room.
3F quiet rooms
Small rooms. Tutoring pairs. Kids who need less noise. No sleepovers. Out by close.
Empty lecture room with rows of black chairs facing a large video wall; windows look out over trees and a river.
